Mobile Concepts Technology (MCT) outfits Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) with rugged, in-vehicle technology

December 9, 2019 (Phoenix) – Mobile Concepts Technology (MCT), a distributor of rugged technology devices for government agencies such as fire departments, law enforcement, EMS, and state and local departments, contracted with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) to provide more than 1,000 Panasonic Toughbook rugged laptop computers over a 2-year period (2017-2019).

Arizona State Troopers use the TraCS (Traffic and Criminal Software) on their in-vehicle computers — an automated citation-writing system that provides the ability to record, retrieve and manage incident information wherever and whenever needed. MCT also provided Arizona DPS with LTron scanners, which allow the Troopers to use barcodes on driver’s licenses and registration to capture information directly at the vehicle site. So that the Troopers can then print citations by the vehicle, MCT provided Arizona DPS with Brother Mobile Pocket Jet printers to round out the computing, scanning and printing system. MCT president Aaron Bauer explained that “the business side of Panasonic TOUGHBOOK rugged devices means that Arizona DPS will see a reduction in repair costs and downtime, resulting in the laptops paying for themselves over time. This DPS troopers statewide to concentrate on their public safety, rather than technology failures.”

There is an increasing need for rugged devices to meet the specific demands of public safety agencies working in various environments. Safety personnel requires access to technology that helps them respond to calls, identify threats, and communicate with other officials from their vehicles, on foot, or from department headquarters. Rugged computers are reliable and can withstand heavy use and handling. Laptop computers are increasingly replacing desktop units in offices because they offer flexibility to the worker who needs to stay productive when away from the office.

Arizona DPS is the largest public safety agency in the state of Arizona. The computers, scanners and printers were purchased off the National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO) contract, of which the State of Arizona is an active member. MCT is designated as a top reseller for this contract. NASPO leverages the purchasing volume of participating public agencies across the country for volume discounts from suppliers. This cooperative strategy offers lower costs, and time and resource savings, to participating agencies.
